About the Glacier Ridge Animal Farm

Welcome to Glacier Ridge Animal Farm. Glacier Ridge Animal Farm is a “dream coming true” for your hosts Mark Schultz and Michelle Schmid.

The adventure started in 1985 when Mark acquired some Texas Longhorns and Watusee Cattle. And in 1995 added camels and buffalo to his collection. The buffalo herd, now numbering around 50, started with a pair of orphaned calves that were the initial breeding stock that Mark used to start the herd.

In the last four years, Mark and Michelle have purchased animals and given many other animals a new home that needed one.

Schools and daycares started calling to come out and visit the farm for educational trips. The response to the farm was overwhelming. Mark and Michelle decided to turn their “exotic hobby” into a venue that everyone could enjoy.

Glacier Ridge Animal Farm maintains a farm atmosphere with landscaped paths between the areas. The farm is located on 60 acres and includes manmade ponds, wildflowers, pastures and woods along approximately 3000 feet of gravel and asphalt walking trails. The trails wind through the former gravel pit that was a hog farm and dairy operation before Mark purchased it in 1984.

The farm you experience now is a labor of love. With the help of only friends and family the farm has been developed into an escape from the everyday and a place to truly enjoy and appreciate.

The farm is currently home to over 30 different kinds of animals, that include Bison, Camels, Cattle (Watusees, Longhorns, Zebus), Chickens, (Laying Hens, Banties & Exotics), a Donkey, Ducks, Geese, (Toulouse, White and African), Elk, Emus, Goats, Horses, (Belgium, trail & miniature), Llamas, Ostriches, Pigs (Potbellies and a rare breed called Red Wattlers), Swans ( Black and White ), a Tortoise (African Spur Footed), Wallabies, Water Buffalo, Yaks, Alligator and more!

Three years ago Mark saved a beautiful 100-year-old barn from demolition. It was moved to the property and is now home to the farm store. Mark and Michelle have future plans of expanding the barn into a restaurant, bakery and espresso bar.

So come to where the buffalo roam and be our guest for a day of fun down on the farm.
